Use cases and practical choices
Content teams can standardize image composition, retail teams can remove unwanted margins from product photos, and training or sales teams can label presentation graphics. Use the document straightener first for trapezoid-shaped paper photos: a crop box alone does not correct perspective.
Crop, compress, and watermark images
- Free-form crop with live preview
- Compress output and pick JPG, PNG, or WebP
- Add text or image watermarks with rotation and opacity
How to crop and compress an image
- Open an image and wait for the crop box and preview. Decide whether it is for an avatar, product image or slide, then choose free crop or an available ratio: 1:1, 16:9, 4:3 or 3:4.
- Drag and resize the crop box, using rotation or horizontal flip if needed. Check faces, lettering and product edges. There is no direct target pixel-width or height input on this page.
- Choose PNG, JPG or WebP. Quality applies to JPG and WebP; the slider does not make PNG lossy. For a watermark, expand its settings and choose text or an image, then adjust position, opacity and angle.
- Review the preview for obscured detail, download and inspect both appearance and file size. The original is not overwritten, but you should retain it separately.
Crop and compress FAQ
Which crop ratio should I use for avatars, product images or article graphics?
A square is a useful starting point for avatars and some product images; 16:9 suits many wide graphics, while 3:4 can suit portrait content. Follow the destination requirements. A ratio specifies shape, not guaranteed pixel dimensions. Leave space around subjects and lettering in case the destination crops again.
Why does reducing quality barely affect a PNG?
Browser PNG output uses lossless encoding; quality settings mainly affect JPG and WebP. Compare those formats for photographs while checking text, edges and transparency. This page does not guarantee a specific KB size and has no arbitrary output pixel-dimension input.
Does adding a watermark prevent copying or removal?
A visible watermark can identify a brand, source or preview version, but it cannot guarantee that someone will not crop, cover or remove it. Avoid obscuring faces, totals or important data. Inspect opacity and contrast before export: the watermark becomes part of the output image, while the original should be kept separately.
Why does the cropped or rotated image look less sharp?
A tight crop leaves fewer source pixels, which can look soft when displayed at a larger size. Repeated lossy exports can also accumulate damage. Start with the original, avoid unnecessary re-saving and inspect the result at its intended display size. Cropping cannot restore missing or blurred detail.
